History of Water Use in the Area
This Area of Vancouver Island used to be a Big Swamp.! What Happened!?
Cutting Down the big trees and draining the land. That is just the start. Over extracting groundwater faster than recovery (some wells are more than 100 meters deep) Leveling and developing land. The link below further explains the compound effect of messing with the land and water, will eventually cause the regional climate to change.
The pioneers came to this part of Vancouver Island in the mid 1800's much of the land supported massive trees. Large swamps and bogs created the need to drain a lot of the land before the area could be developed for houses and small farms.
We alter the hydrology on the land and a chain of reactions start to affect a lot more.
