Our Oceanside Water

Real-time Hydrometric Data of the Englishman River

Water is Fundamental to Life on Earth

This section has evolved from more that 35 years that Trevor Wicks has been involved with water issues in the Parksville, Qualicum Beach, and the Oceanside areas on eastern Vancouver Island.

Watersheds, rivers, creeks, wetlands and the connections to the ocean.

Wells, groundwater, geology the hidden resource.

Groundwater is the silent lifeline for many Oceanside residents and ecosystems. But this vital resource faces increasing pressure from population growth, pollution, and climate change. Managing groundwater sustainably ensures long-term resilience for both people and nature.

Save Eileen

A Human Rights Movement

The experiences of Eileen and Trevor Wicks, along with numerous related stories, reveal deep concerns about the treatment of seniors in long-term care on Vancouver Island and across British Columbia. After Eileen, who suffers from dementia, was forcibly removed from her home and institutionalized under the Adult Guardianship Act, her husband Trevor was denied regular contact, highlighting the emotional and personal toll of such interventions. These accounts suggest that public health authorities and the Public Guardian and Trustee may be using significant taxpayer funds in ways that intimidate and isolate vulnerable seniors, sometimes blocking family access and disregarding their wishes. The situation points to broader systemic issues, including a lack of transparency, financial exploitation, and inadequate care in institutions. These stories collectively advocate for public awareness, media attention, and urgent reforms to protect seniors’ rights, ensure compassionate care, and empower families to participate in decisions affecting their loved ones’ lives.
