Eileen is Living in Fear

Eileen is Living in Fear for her life in Long Term Care

Assault of Eileen Wicks, at Eagle Park facility, 777 Jones Street in Qualicum Beach BC Canada, on the evening of Oct 23rd 2024, between 6.35 and 6.50 p.m.

I was on the phone with Eileen. We had been singing with Barbara Streisand on YouTube, and I was reading to her, from our life story book 26,000 Days; when a serious incident occurred in Eileen’s room. She was assaulted by two male residents; I heard the incident on the phone but obviously could do nothing to help her. Eileen was screaming and in obvious distress, I could hear what sounded like aggressive physical interaction and a loud yell as Eileen was hurt.   After a about three minutes, I did get my audio recorder working and recorded the very last part of the assault.

A while later it sounded like a staff member came into the room and hung up the phone. After a few minutes, I phoned Eileen again and recorded some of her conversation; it took a while before I was able to calm her down. She said on the recording there were two men in her room, and that “two of them”, “they could have killed me”.

The audio recorded over the phone is on The Eileen's Story page about half way down.

At about 7.10 p.m. I phoned the Oceanside RCMP and the lady on the phone was very understanding and considerate. She agreed that I did the right thing to call them, and we spoke for about 15 minutes.  She started a RCMP file OC 24 – XXXXX investigation, and passed this on to an officer. Const XXXXXXXXXX.   I had two calls from constable XXXXXXXXXXX, she recommended that I take the matter up with Eagle Park management. I explained to her that if I tried to connect with Eagle Park management in any significant way about this matter, I could or would be prohibited from seeing Eileen or visiting at the facility.

This had already happened, when I asked for a staff persons surname in another incident, I was immediately prohibited from visiting Eileen at Eagle Park for two + weeks. Also, her private phone was blocked from receiving calls, so we could not talk on the phone for many days.

On October 24th I had a 45-minute conversation with a Constable XXXX XXXXX from the Oceanside RCMP.     He was very considerate; however, he did not make a commitment to take further action. On October 25th I mentioned the assault incident, during a conversation with Melissa Perry, Lawyer for the international law firm Norton Rose. They are the law firm representing Island Health in Eileen’s care situation. She seemed quite annoyed, and indicated that she did not want me to talk about it.

She did ask me to document the incident and forward it to herself, Lorraine Kirk, and Rosanne Philbrook; management with Island Health.

Now we will wait to see if anything is done to help Eileen, or if I am banned from visiting my lovely wife and best friend of 62 years.
