What does water contamination look/smell/taste like?

Substances that could contaminate drinking water, number in the tens of thousands. Some 'natural' contaminants occur in water. More than 80,000 biological and man-made substances are present in our environment. It is possible the traces of a chemical/biological soup could be present, depending on the source of the water.
